'Netlixir' Homegrown Nettle Balm
'Netlixir' Homegrown Nettle Balm
A nettle infused ‘super balm’ from The Elder Field @ Naturally at The Wrens Nest (Made in Laois)
‘Netlixir’ is the first in a new range of products I’m creating using native plants growing in The Elder Field - an ARK that is currently in my care.
To quote Mary Reynolds, founder of the ARK movement -
An ARK is a restored, native ecosystem. Its a thriving patch of native plants and creatures that have been allowed and supported to re-establish in the earths intelligent, successional process of natural restoration.
This balm harnesses the powerful nettle plant and the main ingredient is a nettle infused organic sunflower oil. The nettles were dried and infused within hours of being picked and the oil was solar infused for several months to extract all the potent power of the nettle. I’ve also added organic cocoa butter and beeswax to create a portable balm that you can pop in your bag to always have on hand. Personally, I use it mostly for itchy skin, which I have been suffering with as I go through peri menopause.
Nettle is an amazing plant for so many reasons -
Skin and Hair Care - nettle oil eases skin irritations. It is beneficial for repairing damaged skin, making this balm useful for wounds, scars, dry skin, daily skincare, and eczema. Nettle oil massaged into the scalp is believed to combat hair loss.
Wound Healing - nettle oil can been used for wound healing, including bites & stings. A study found that nettle oil had significantly higher wound healing and antibacterial activity compared to other treatments.
Pain Relief - nettle oil has traditionally been used for anti-inflammation and pain relief for conditions like arthritis.
Promoting Blood Circulation - nettle oil can enhance blood circulation.
Relieving Scalp Irritation - nettle oil can ease skin irritation on the scalp, including cradle cap.
Ingredients - Organic Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seed Oil, Urtica Dioica (nettle) Extract, Organic Theobroma Cacao (cocoa) Seed Butter, Cera Alba (beeswax), 90g tube
